(decd.), of Snaithfield, Sheffield (sold by order of his executors), it comprises: two caxtons, Cordyale, 1479, one of four in private hands and the largest copy known, and the Fayttes of Armes, 1489, also one of four in private hands, an important Shakespeare collection, including an unusually good First Folio, wanting only four leaves, an extremely fine Second Folio, in an old binding, Poems, 1640, complete with portrait and both titles, and twenty Quartos; Lodge’s Rosalynde, 1590, the only perfect copy known; Dekker, Batchelars Banquet, 1603, one of two perfect copies known; Marlowe, Jaw of Malta, 1633; Milton, Lycidas, 1638; Parker, Dives and Pauper, W. de Worde, 1496; Skelton, Works, 1568; Spenser, Complaints, 1591, and Colin Clout, 1595; Warning for Faire Women, 1599; Herrick, Hesperides, 1648; Boccaccio, Des Nobles et Cleres Dames, Vérard, 1493; Montaigne, Essais, first edition, 1580; Jenson’s Pliny, 1496; an extremely fine and remarkable XV century manuscript or the Apocalypse, Ars Moriendi, etc., illustrated with nearly 300 magnificent drawings, a Burgundian manuscript of the history of Troy, a French Valerius Maximus, a sumptuous Shah-Namah, illuminated Bibles, missals, horae and breviaries, MS. texts of Juvenal and Seneca, an autograph note book of Voltaire, from the Ashburnham-Barrois collection; and a magnificent holograph letter of Katherine of Aragon to Charles V, relating to her divorce, which will be sold by auction by Messrs.
