Catalogue of a very valuable collection of silver and works of art formed by the late Robert Drane, esq. of Queen Street, Cardiff, illustrative of domestic articles chiefly for table use, comprising silver cream jugs, antique silver spoons & others in base metal, etc., including an ecclesistical spoon of the fifth century, drinking vessels, including Elizabethan cups and flagons, silver mounted, leathern jacks, horn cups, treen ware, Lambeth Delft, etc. wooden trenchers and roundels, knives and forks, lambswool and punch ladles, tobacco rasps of the eighteenth century, antique ivory and wood carvings, glass drinking vessels, including several Jacobean relics, and other finely engraved glasses, Stuart embroideries, Scottish stone antiquities, and many miscellaneous items of great interest which will be sold by auction by Messrs. Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge, auctioneers of literary property and works illustrative of the fine arts, at their house, No. 13, Wellington Street, Strand, W.C. on Thursday, the 29th of June, the following day, and on Monday, the 3rd of July, 1916, at one o'clock precisely

- La vente eut lieu les 29 et 30 juin et 3 juillet 1916 ; La maison de vente Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge, créée par Samuel Baker en 1744, prit le nom Sotheby’s en 1924 et déménagea de Wellington Street pour New Bond Street en 1917

- Robert Drane (1833-1914), chimiste, fonda sa pharmacie à Cardiff en 1858 ; Il fut l'un des membres fondateurs de la Cardiff Naturalists' Society en 1867 et membre fellow de la Linneon Society of London, société dédiée à la taxinomie
- Drane fonda une société d'antiquaires avec plusieurs collectionneurs dont Sir Charles James Jackson (1849-1923) et participa ainsi au développement du Cardiff Museum où il fut nommé conservateur honoraire, aujourd'hui National museum Wales
