Napier, M.A. D.Litt., Merton Professor of Anglo-Saxon in the University of Oxford (sold by order of the Executors), comprising pennies with bust of Offa, Cynethryth, Coenwulf, Ceolwulf I, Beornwulf and Berhtwulf of Mercia; a unique penny without bust of Wiglaf; pennies of Cuthred of Kent, of Archbishops Jaenberht, Aethelheard, Wulfred, and Ceolnoth; of Aethelstan I and II, and Aethelweard of East Anglia; of Siefred, Anlaf Quaran, and Eric Bloodaxe, Danish Kings of York; of Eegbert, Aethelwulf and Alfred the Great; fine pennies with portrait of Edward the Elder, Edred, and Edward the Martyr; the scarce penny of Edward the Elder, with rev. view of a church, and other varieties, including many well-known specimens from the Rashleigh, Reynolds, and Sir John Evans' collections; also an almost complete series of the XVIIth century tokens of the city of Oxford; together with English gold & silver coins, &c., the property of the late William Leitch, Esq., of 13, Gilmore Place, Edinburgh, the property of the late Edmund Shorthouse, Esq. (sold by order of the deceased), the property of the late Robert Drane, Esq., of Queen Street, Cardiff, and miscellaneous coins & tokens, with a few war medals, from various sources, which will be sold by auction by Messrs. - Edmund Shorthouse (1837?-1916) vécut à Birmingham ; Il fut également membre de la Royal Numismatic Society
- Robert Drane (1833-1914), chimiste, fonda sa pharmacie à Cardiff en 1858 ; Il fut l'un des membres fondateurs de la Cardiff Naturalists' Society en 1867 et membre fellow de la Linneon Society of London, société dédiée à la taxinomie
- Drane fonda une société d'antiquaires avec plusieurs collectionneurs dont Sir Charles James Jackson (1849-1923) et participa ainsi au développement du Cardiff Museum où il fut nommé conservateur honoraire, aujourd'hui National museum Wales
